Admissions

At WVSU, we strive to make our international admissions process as simple and convenient as possible. Once you’re admitted, our Office of International Affairs will provide you and your family with the individualized support you need to ensure your successful transition to becoming a student in the United States. We’ll answer your questions about visas, housing, English language classes and more. Our dedicated team is invested in your success from day one through graduation.

Tuition and Fees

Undergraduate tuition is approximately $15,500 per year for a four-year program. Graduate tuition is approximately $17,000 per year for a two-year program.

Upon admittance, students must pay a $150 non-refundable academic registration deposit to obtain an I-20 visa form. Students must pay one semester’s tuition within two weeks of their visa approval prior to traveling to the United States.

Scholarships

Generous scholarships are available to international students, up to $6,000 per year for undergraduate students and $5,000 per year for graduate students.

1. Application for Admission

2. Official transcript(s) or scanned copies of all academic records submitted directly to the Office of Admissions from all schools previously attended.
If a national examination is required upon the completion of schooling in the country of origin, official results of the examination must be submitted to WVSU. Students from countries with a General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination system must receive a grade of six or higher in at least five academic subjects, one of which must be English.

3. Standardized Test
All students for whom English is not their native language must take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the IELTS Exam.

If admitted, the following documentation is required:
  • To obtain F-1 status, it is necessary to submit an Affidavit of Support with required documentation.
  • International students transferring to West Virginia State University from another United States college must apply for immigration approval (Form I-538) and the F-1 Transfer Clearance Form prior to making the transfer.
  • Undergraduate students are required to pay $400 for health insurance unless documentation is provided that the student’s existing health insurance is of equal or greater coverage.

English Language Proficiency
WVSU provides students at every level of study with the opportunity to participate in our Excellence in Culture and English Language Study (EXCELS) program. It is designed to provide you with the skills and training you need to master the English language and achieve academic success.

Excellence in Culture and English Language Study (EXCELS) Program:
Undergraduate students with less than 6.0 IELTS or equivalent and graduate students with less than 6.5 IELTS score are required to attend a mandatory four-week extended orientation as part of their degree program, consisting of intensive English preparation and academic readiness, starting in July prior to Fall start. The four-week program is $4,000 including tuition, transportation from airport, housing and meals.
